Your On the Air
To my surprise late last week I got an e-mail from Access Radio in Wellington. They were contacting me because they were planning a show based around kiwi podcasters and they had run into my little site
NZ Beats Podcast. One of the co-hosts Yenping and I got to talking and she ended up doing an interview for her show.
First I have to say, Yenping did a fantastic job of making me feel at easy. I usually get quite nervous in these sorts of situations, but this was just like having a conversation with an old friend. She also talked me up, a lot. My head size tripled in size while listening to the show, made me feel quite proud of myself and NZ Beats.
I have the interview bellow for your listening pleasure, but I would suggest heading over to the Access Radio Blog and listening to the whole show there. That way you’ll also be able to hear another interview with a different kiwi podcaster Tom whose podcast, Like a Mad Dog Running through a Puddle of Gravy, consists of him and his brother shooting the shit about an array of different topics.

Chris Knox
One of my all time favourite New Zealand musicians, Chris Knox, suffered a stroke recently. You will be pleased to know that he is recovering in Auckland Hospital this very moment.
For those of you who don’t know Chris Knox, he arrived on the New Zealand music scene back in 1977 in arguably the most influential kiwi punk band The Enemy. Later he went on to form great bands like Toy Love and Tall Dwarfs as well as releasing a plethora of solo self produced albums. At the 2001 New Zealand Music Awards his 1990 track Not Given Lightly was chosen as New Zealand’s 13th best song of all time. 5 years later he started his own record label A Major Records and continues to create music to this day with The Nothing.
In order to send out my good vibes to Chris in this his time of recovery I have dedicated this weeks NZ Beats show to his work. Have a listen to the podcast below, or head over to NZ Beats for the full show notes.

Classical Sparks in the Park
Just got back from the Classical Sparks in the Park, which is basically a huge free classical music event in Hagley Park which finishes with a fireworks show. The music was reasonable, and the crowd seemed to be in good sorts. Only saw one drunken teeny fight as we were leaving.
Of course the highlight of the night was the firework finally. It started with a flaming apple being shot with a flaming arrow, then moved into a pretty spectacular firework rocket display that match a classical music score that was being played.
Pretty good start to the Waitangi Day weekend.

On Stage with Cut Off Your Hands at Sounday 09
I got me some media passes to Sounday last Saturday. It was awesome. Beautiful day, sitting backstage drinking free beer while listening to some great music. Couldn’t really ask for better. Got the chance to get some pretty good photos as well. If you want to read more check out my full post on
NZ Beats here.
I knew a Christian once. I’m pretty sure she gave hugs. Full frontal too
